Summary

Public: Globular teapot with crabstock handle and spout, white salt-glazed stoneware, painted in overglaze enamels with portrait of Frederick the Great and Flying Eagle and Shield, against ermine ground. Private: Globular teapot on flat circular foot, with crabstock handle and spout. Body painted in black, turquoise-blue, pink, green, brown and yellow overglaze enamels with shaped cartouche to left of handle, containing head and shoulders left side profile portrait of Frederick the Great of Prussia, dressed in pink and blue with laurel wreath in his hair, against turquoise-blue ground. Pink border to cartouche, with inscription 'Fred.Prussiae Rex' across the top in black. Opposite side painted with shaped cartouche with pink border, containing heraldic trophy of crowned black Prussian Eagle with wings outstretched, above pink and green shield and scroll inscribed 'Semper Sublimis', against turquoise-blue ground. Main body of teapot including base and flattened circular cover, painted with 'ermine' ground of rows of three-pointed darts and spots in black. Handle, spout and crabstock loop handle to cover all painted with uneven black enamel lines. Small hole pierced in cover.
