Summary

Public: Wall pocket made of salt-glazed brown and white agate toneware, with relief decoration of satyr mask, dolphin mask and leaves, picked out with trailed brown slip and splashes of underglaze cobalt blue. Private: Slip-cast wall pocket, in the form of a satyr's head crowned with ivy, surmounted by tall stem of architectural moulding flaring outwards at mouth into wide fan-shape with moulded dolphin's head in centre. Flat side on reverse with lobed rim and two holes pierced at the top for suspension. Finely marbled white and dark brown stoneware laid in strips to give irregular streaky chequer pattern, reserving satyr and dolphin masks in plain white stoneware, eyes picked out in dark brown slip. Two broad dashes of underglaze cobalt blue above satyr head, bubbled and blistered beneath salt-glaze.
