Summary

Public: Pear-shaped lidded cream jug, red lead-glazed earthenware, with incised decoration and applied white reliefs of flowers and birds. Private: Pear-shaped cream jug on narrow spreading foot, tapering to tall cylindrical neck with sparrow beak lip. Loop handle in form of scaly dolphin with outward turned tail at lower terminal. Decorative border of alternating incised vertical lines and diamonds around belly, diamonds overlaid with applied stamped reliefs in white comprising, from right of handle, feathery scroll, leafy sprig, bird, flowerhead, feathery scroll, leafy sprig. Border enclosed within turned horizontal bands, repeated at neckrim. Applied stamped reliefs to either side of neck, comprising leafy sprig, flowerhead and bird to left of handle, leafy sprig, flowerhead and scroll to right of handle. Shallow domed circular cover with baluster finial, rouletted border to rim and three stamped reliefs of flower, leafy sprig and scroll. Deep red earthenware body with glossy lead glaze.
