Summary

Public: Cylindrical teapot made of cream coloured earthenware. Painted in red, black, green and yellow overglaze enamels with scrollwork, farming implements and inscription 'God Speed the Plough'. Private: Cylindrical teapot, with concave shoulder and straight turned rim. Ear-shaped ribbed strap loop handle, and tapering S-shaped spout with moulded acanthus detail at base. Side to left of handle painted in red and black enamels with a plough within black and red scrollwork cartouche incorporating motto 'God Speed / the Plough' in black. Similar cartouche on opposite side, enclosing wheatsheaf, fork and rake, and bearing inscription 'Succefs to ye / Grain Return'd'. Shallow domed cover with flattened sloping rim, sides painting with two narrow panels of black and red brushwork scrolls. Central flowerhead finial with applied relief leafy stem, picked out in green and yellow enamels. Small pierced hole to one side. Pale cream coloured body with fine yellowish glaze.
