Summary

Public: Pear shaped jug, cream coloured earthenware, painted in underglaze cobalt blue with Chinoiserie landscapes and commemorative inscription within scrollwork cartouche. Private: Large pear shaped jug on turned spreading foot, with ribbed strap handle, sparrow beak lip and everted rim. Sides to left and right of handle painted in underglaze cobalt blue with two Chinoiserie landscapes of pagoda and willow tree in a garden. Side opposite handle beneath lip painted with elaborate scrollwork cartouche enclosing commemorative inscription 'Thos. Williams / of / Rowlright Oxfordshire / If all true Brittains hear are found / Each take a Glafs &: drink it round'. Border to rim of scalloped band embellished with groups of three dots, scrollwork motif to handle. Cream coloured body with crazed yellowish glaze.
