Summary

Public: Ovoid jug with turned fluted borders, white earthenware with a pearlware glaze, transfer-printed in overglaze black with scenes of 'The Upshot or Bonny Fire' on one side, exotic birds in a landscape on the other, details picked out in enamels. Private: Ovoid jug with bamboo turned border to foot, cylindrical neck with inset lip and loop handle with outer spur at thumbrest. Transfer-printed overglaze on side to left of handle with scene entitled 'The UPSHOT or BONny FIRE', comprising figure of Napoleon suspended from a gallows over a pile of wood. John Bull stands to right putting flame to the wood and saying 'For George!! Ive quieten'd him. He's made a stir 'ith world long enough; now's my turn, I'll stir him when my Fire lights.' Side to right of handle printed with two peacocks in a rural landscape with trees in background to left and right. Bamboo turned border to neck beneath painted husk chain. Dark red enamel bands to neckrim and junction with body.
