Summary

Public: Toby jug in the form of Martha Gunn made of white earthenware, picked out in brown, yellow, orange, green and cobalt blue beneath a pearlware glaze. Private: Toby jug in the form of Martha Gunn, with strap loop handle behind head and shoulders. Martha sits on low circular cushion on irregular octagonal plinth, with a goblet clasped to her chest in her left hand, a bottle balanced on her lap in her right hand, head turned slightly to the right. Picked out in high temperature underglaze colours to give scattered floral sprigs to dress, with yellow ochre hem and cuffs, brown edged bodice, yellow and brown shawl, brown shoes and deep brown hat tied over mob cap with blue bow beneath chin, face picked out in brown and orange. Bottle, goblet and handle picked out in brown, cushion edged in orange, with single brown band to plinth. Finely crazed blue pearlware glaze. pattern : Martha Gunn.
