Summary

Public: Toby jug, white earthenware, picked out in green, brown and orange beneath a pearlware glaze. Private: Toby jug, with heavy strap loop handle. Grinning gap-toothed figure of Toby sits on octagonal plinth, with a jug of foaming beer in both hands resting on one knee. Picked out in high temperature underglaze colours to give green cuffs, collar, pockets and buttons to coat, green-rimmed tricorn hat, brown spotted waistcoat, and brown breeches, shoes and hair, face picked out in brown and orange. Beer mug picked out in brown spots, plinth and back beneath handle sponged in green and brown. Heavily crazed blue pearlware glaze.
