Summary

Public: Ovoid jug with cylindrical neck, white earthenware with a pearlware glaze, painted in pink, red, green, yellow, blue and black overglaze enamels with a ship, floral sprays and commemorative inscription. Private: Ovoid jug with cylindrical neck and inset sparrow beak lip, plain strap loop handle with slight outer spur at lower terminal. Painted in overglaze enamels with red and yellow ship with black sails to left of handle, floral spray to right of handle, and mispelt inscription 'Amiral Duncan / For Ever' above two laurel sprigs in black beneath lip. Neck painted with simple crenellated border in red and blue, between plain brown bands at rim and junction with shoulder. Fine blue pearlware glaze with slight crazing in patches, very fine turned horizontal bands around waist, probably used as centring marks by decorator.
