Summary

Public: Milk jug in the form of a cow and calf made of white earthenware, decorated in sponged and painted yellow ochre and orange beneath a pearlware glaze. Private: Press-moulded milk jug in the form of a cow standing on rectangular plinth with tapering fluted sides, long tail curled over back in large loop to form handle, open mouth forming covered lip. Oval hole in cow's shoulder for cover (missing). Small figure of a calf suckling beneath cow's body. Cow and calf both decorated in high temperature underglaze colours, with sponged yellow ochre bodies, cow painted with orange wavy stems to sides, orange tail and horns. Single yellow ochre band around sides of plinth. Fine pearlware glaze, forming heavily crazed dark blue pools at base.
