Summary

Public: Milk jug in the form of a cow and milkmaid. White earthenware, decorated with sponged and painted yellow, black, blue and green beneath a pearlware glaze. Private: Press-moulded milk jug in the form of a cow standing on stepped rectangular plinth with chamfered corners, long tail curled over back in large loop to form handle, open mouth forming covered lip. Oval hole in cow's shoulder for cover (missing). Small figure of a milkmaid seated to one side beneath cow, filling a bucket with milk. High temperature underglaze painted decoration, of large yellow patches to cow, heavily outlined in black, with sponged black tail and horns and painted black hooves. Sponged decoration to milkmaid to give yellow skirt, blue bodice and black hair. Plain green plinth. Finely crazed blue pearlware glaze.
