Summary

Public: Jug made of earthenware with printed overglaze purple lustre with protrait of Queen Croline with an inscription that reads, "God Save Queen Caroline". Private: Ovoid jug tapering to foot, with cylindrical neck, inset lip and loop handle with outer spur at thumbrest. Side to left of handle printed in overglaze purple with half-length portrait of Queen Caroline wearing plumed hat, with inscription below reading 'GOD SAVE / QUEEN CAROLINE!'. Side to right of handle printed with cartouche of leafy stems and scrolls inscribed 'LONG LIVE CAROLINE! / Denman / Waithman / Williams / QUEEN OF ENGLAND / Brougham / WOOD / Lushington', containing commemorative verse : 'As for the Green-Bag crew, / Justice will have it due, / God save the Queen! / Confound their politicks, / Frustrate their knavish tricks / On HER our hopes we fix, / God save the Queen!'. Shoulder, neck, lip and upper handle all painted in thick metallic copper lustre above narrow moulded shoulder ridge, with metallic purple lustre leafy spray beneath lip and purple lustre borders to foot and inside rim.
