The Verandah

Charles Waldo Adin 1854 - 1930

Summary

A view of a domestic garden environment in Spring or Summer (the garden is in full bloom) as seen from within the garden itself; the viewer is positioned looking towards the house. A row of flowers erupt in blue, indigo, violet and white to the right-hand foreground of the picture. The shady verandah of a Victorian house is positioned in the background of the image, a shadow being cast by thick foliage growing across the trellis. The house features green shutters and large, spacious windows with white frames. The window to the right reflects trees from the garden, giving some indication of the large scale of the garden itself. Certain plants by the doorway are discernable such as the bright orange pot of roses and the two lavender plants. The scene shows the splendor of the domestic garden in full bloom. The paint application and style is impressionistic.
