Deserted Mills
Summary
A landscape of deserted mills amongst fields and tall trees on a hillside. The teracotta coloured roofs of small buildings are visible between deep green trees, and larger mills are silhouetted against a grey overcast sky. E.M. Fry reviewed Horace Brodsky's paintings shown at the 1926 London Group Exhibition on 10 June 1926 in British Australasia. He commented "Deserted Mills is undoubtedly the chef d'oeuvre of his oil paintings, and in its simplicity and directness of statement, its masterly handling of the problem of values in evening light, and its sincerity of feeling, is the finest painting Mr. Brodsky has yet exhibited".
