Courtyard from a Window
Le Sidaner, Henri-Eugene-Augustin 1862 - 1939
Summary
An impressionistic view through large, open bay windows into an intimate, picturesque courtyard. The style of painting is distinctly impressionistic, the artist having used small daubs of paint to construct the highly coloured image. Some use of impasto is also evident in the bottom section of the painting in the dark, floral wallpaper. The courtyard is highly illuminated in the background lighting up a gated cottage with orange wisteria growing from the walls. Pink roses grow either side of the bay window in the foreground.
