Early Morning Scene in Surrey

John Horace Hooper 9 Dec 1851 - 11 Oct 1906

Summary

A slightly dark, rural scene of a house in the country, seen from the edge of a nearby pond. The top of the house is just visible, where its roof and chimney stick out in front of its tightly surrounding trees. The land around is flat apart from various trees, with a small barn visible on the left in the near distance, and another set of buildings in the far distance on the right. The foreground is interrupted by a few short trees by the pond, which are the tallest features on the canvas. At the edge of the house to the right two figures can be seen, a man and a child. There is a grey, overcast sky and the horizon is punctuated by dark, distant trees.
