Summary

Black velvet. Lined with black synthetic net and black stiffened muslin. Truncated cone shape, back neck edge cut deeper than front to allow for head. Front to shape hat to forehead and make peak project forwards. Edges turned under at top, leaving centre hollow. Pin stuck at left front nipping shape in slightly. Lower edge faced with black petersham. Cross reference with hat worn by Greta Garbo in "Ninotchka".
