Black satin over stiff foundation. Lined with black silk. Deep rounded crown with fold at centre front and centre back widening slightly to form very narrow brim turned up on left. Trimmed with crimped strips of shiny composition arranged in concentric semi-circles each side of crown, ostrich feather plume at top falling over sides and back, black satin and silver ribbon round base of crown, feather flecked with silver.
