Front : Bust of Roscoe facing right "WILLIAM ROSCOE" Reverse : Shrub with three stems, bearing leaves and berries "STASSI IL LAVRO LIETO BORN MDCCLIII / DIED / MDCCCXXXI" William Roscoe of Liverpool was one of the earliest collectors of Italian primitives in the country. He wrote a life of Lorezno de Medici and was closely associated with the Liverpool Royal Institution. Both Spence and Gibson worked for Messrs Franceys, the Liverpool firm of Statuaries.
