Ian
Summary
Three-quarter length frontal portrait of Ian D. E. de Hamel aged 12 years. The subject is a fair-haired boy dressed in a vest and shorts with a towel about his neck. Seated against a whitewashed wall with a toy boat in his lap, the boy sits above a harbour, buildings and a seafront below. The portrait is considered to be painted from the perspective of Watch House, or the Cliff Steps in Portmeirion, Wales, towards the hotel, albeit with a column strategically removed. The boat to the left in the background is the Amis Reunis stone boat. (Rachel Hunt, Collections Curator, Portmeirion Village).
