Summary

Allegorical figure of autumn; half-length woman in the costume of 1641 - a black hood, a broad white collar with embroidered border worn over a dress with stiffened bodice, long sleeves with cuffs matching collar and short oversleeves, standing by a table with a basket of fruit, inscribed "W. Hollar / 1641"; inscribed below: "AVTMNVS / Convenere simul iam nostra et gaudia luctus / AVTVMNS fruges frigora et gaudia luctus / AVTVMNS fruges frigora et nide parit / Has primo gustes posthac sensures et illa / Ni bene munitus veste vel igne cales", and "AVTVMNE / Our joy and sorrow both come together / Autumne brings freute, but Autumne brings cold weather / here taste the first the last you'll feel no doubt except attir'd like me you keep it out".
