Stepping Stones
Benjamin Williams Leader 1831 - 1923
Summary
A highly coloured, picturesque landscape of a wide still lake, with a tall green hillside in the background, covered in trees. In the middle ground to the left, a woman and baby play on a pebbly shore with large stepping stones before them providing a pathway across the shallow water. A lush meadow extends behind them in which a group of people sit picnicking. The hill in the background boasts shades of brown, red and green, which are also reflected in the lake giving it a depth of rich, earth tones. The figures wear bright tones of red and green which represents them in stark contrast to the landscape.
