Homewards, Conway Marsh
Summary
A landscape painting offering a view of peasant workers in distinctly Victorian dress crossing Conway Marsh, carrying baskets and loads strapped to their backs. They move across a desolate moorland in shadow, with a still expanse of water separating the viewer from the subjects. The sea is visible in the background on the far right. William Meredith largely painted his landscapes and seascapes in black and white, this however displays a more varied use of colour.
