Manchester Infirmary

John Fothergill

Summary

View looking at the front and side of a large building with a tall four-column portico on both visible sides. In the foreground a woman promenades on a paved path. She carries a sunshade and reticule. Beyond a railing is a long pool, and further paths in front of the building. This is the Infirmary, Manchester, after its mid-nineteenth-century classicising facelift. Piccadilly gardens and bus station came to occupy this site in the twentieth century, after the infirmary was demolished in 1910.
