William H. Houldsworth M. P.
Summary
A caricature of William Henry Houldsworth (1834-1917), Conservative Member of Parliament for North West Manchester 1883-1906. Houldsworth established the cotton spinning mills in Reddish, Stockport, and was chair of the Fine Cotton Spinners' Association. Here, however, he is a red-faced, puffy-cheeked, squinting and chinless individual, in brown checked trousers, dark coat and white top hat. He is shown in profile, facing right, with his hands behind his back.
