Summary

Flamboyant couture full length evening dress, entirely covered in beads, sequins, raised embroidery and rhinestones, showing a nightscape in New York with stylised moving cars and tall skyscraper buildings. Shades of blues and purple, with black and highlights in gold. Simple cut with round neck, long sleeves, shoulder pads and lining of navy silk; woven label 'Louis Feraud, Paris'. The donor remembered her husband choosing this dramatic beaded gown for her in Paris and she first wore it to a Gala Opera at Covent Garden. The donor kindly gave it to the museum when contacted after the purchase of another gown of her's at auction. (2008.104). She described it as 'a work of art'.
