Summary

Round hat for a boy with slightly upturned brim and slightly convex crown; blue silk satin ribbon round crown with silvered metal decorative buckle; lined brown silk and figured cream silk (an eighteenth century dress silk). Very similar to the hat worn by Benjamin Way in the 1779 pastel portrait of Benjamin and Lewis Way by John Downman (1750-1824) in the Maitland Collection.
