Summary

Saucer shaped hat in glossy black straw plait with low circular crown, broad brim and stylised made-up bow slotted through the brim; inner black petersham band with attached printed label: 'Philip Somerville London'. Purchased by the donor when aged 35 from Philip Somerville's shop in Bond Street (which had opened in 1987) and worn to her wedding. Philip Somerville was patronised by many members of the Royal Family in the later 1980s and 1990s, receiving the Royal Warrent in recognition.
