Christopher Wood 1901 - Aug 1930

Summary

Stylised scene depicting a fishing vessel moored in St Ives harbour in Cornwall. Fishermen load baskets onto the boat as people watch from above a tall bridge; one fisherman descends a gangplank from the boat onto the harbour, and in the bottom right corner a brick layer builds a wall. In the background beyond the arches of the bridge, whitewashed cottages are visible with more figures walking along the harbour walls to the left. The sky is a deep blue colour. Christopher Wood stayed in Penzance for a few days in August 1926 before travelling around the area by car in late September and finally moving to St Ives
