Study of a Cab at All Saints

Adolphe Valette 1876 - 1942

Summary

Small, spontanously painted study of a cab waiting at All Saints in Manchester indirectly relating to two larger paintings of cabs at All Saints held by Manchester City Galleries - Old Cab at All Saints (1928.34) and hansom cab at All Saints (1928.35).

Display Label

Study of a Cab at All Saints about 1910 Adolphe Valette 1876 - 1942 Oil on board Valette's two large cab paintings on display, like most of his Impressionist style works, were created in his studio partly from sketches or freely executed studies made on the spot. Only four cab studies by Valette are known of which this is the most atmospheric. Although not directly related to a specific work, it perfectly exemplifies the transformation process which took place from street to studio.
