Late Snowfall

Robin Guthrie 1902 - 1971

Summary

A brightly-coloured suburban landscape in winter of the houses of a small cul-de-sac, which is cordoned off across the middle of the painting by fenced off parkland with trees. The sudden snowfall has brought people outside, and some children are building a snowman on the right. More figures are shovelling snow and standing in groups chatting in the foreground. It is comparable both in style and subject matter to 'Snow Scene'by Rodney Burn (1940.307) which was painted in a town in New England when Burn was working at Boston with the artist Robin Guthrie from 1931 to 1934.
