Constantinople and the Golden Horn from Eyoub

John MacWhirter 1839 - 1911

Summary

View of Constantinople (Istanbul) and the Golden Horn seen from Eyoub, looking along the wide river towards the distant Bosphorus and Sea of Marmara; built up on both banks with the Galatya Tower of Pera visible on the left bank, and indistinct buildings and clearly visible mosques with their domes and minarets, including the Suleymaniye. There is a steep hillside in the foreground, with gnarled trees and Ottoman tombstones surmounted with the deceased's headgear (fes or turban) to the right.
