Summary

3/4 length studio portrait of a woman with an infant. Vignette. The woman is seated with the infant in her arms. She has wavy hair worn in a chignon and she is wearing a dark pinstriped dress with a fitted bodice and full length fitted sleeves with small gathers at the sleeve head. Her bodice is pleated down the centre front with 2 rows of velvet trim either side. Her sleeve cuffs are trimmed with the same velvet with a white cuff underneath. She wears a standing velvet collar with a metal clasp or brooch and a white standing collar underneath. The infant wears a long white gown with lace trim and lomg sleeves. The woman is seated on a velvet upholstered chair against a plain studio backdrop. Written on the back in ink "S.E.W-S. / Oct 1886 / Aged 3 Months"
