The Living Tree

Marion Adnams 1898 - 1995

Summary

This is a surreal painting of a faceless paper woman in a burgundy dress. She is standing in a desolate landscape with a black Venetian mask at her feet. To the left of the figure there is a large ornately carved fork and spoon bundle, suspended in the air by a pink bow. In the background there are tall spindly branches 'growing' from the ground, which are reminiscent of tree trunks. The desolate landscape depicts snow-covered fields with a heavy, grey sky.
