Snow Scene

Rodney Joseph Burn 1899 - 1984

Summary

This is a snowy scene of a town outside a large, red brick house, with a road stretching out into the distance to the left. In front of house, on the patch of snow, figures in coats and hats are standing and sitting about. One is playing a harmonica, one has a dog, which is growling at group of birds pecking about in snow. There is a tranquil mood to this bright painting. It was painted in a town in New England when Burn was working at Boston with the artist Robin Guthrie from 1931 to 1934. It is comparable both in style and subject matter to 'Late Snowfall' by Robin Guthrie (1938.259) which was painted in the spring of 1932 from Guthrie's house in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
