evening dress

Nina Ricci 1883 - 1970

Summary

Ivory silk crepe sleeveless, full-length, evening dress with leaf-shaped cutwork round neck and bodice front and at front waist; cutwork trimmed with white opaque circular and pointed beads; long slits to skirt either side; unlined; woven label, yellow on white: 'La boutique de Nina Ricci, Paris.' The vendor bought the outfit in Paris in 1965. She had moved to Milan when first married in 1959 (with a wedding dress by Biki) and in Milan, she bought clothes by Capucci and Pucci. She later lived in Paris (1968-72) where she also patronised Jean Louis Scherrer and Nina Ricci (see 2009.64). She describes both this Dior and the Ricci as 'very successful'. This Dior she wore to La Scala when visiting Rome, whence she later moved.
