Public: Squat tobacco jar with lid, red earthenware, slip coated with trailed and painted circus scene decoration. Private: Squat circular tobacco jar with slightly curved sides and round lid, red earthenware. Yellow slip coating to outer lid and body, star painted around lid handle in dark brown slip covered in lighter brown dots along outline, surrounded by six pale brown crescents covered in yellow dots. One large chip with repair to lid surface, one chip to rim of lid. Main body of jar painted and trailed with circus figures in dark brown, pale brown and yellow slip; one male figure juggling four balls wearing shirt with baggy sleeves and trousers and sombrero hat, to right male clown figure with pointed hat and large ruff holding hoop which ruffed dog is jumping through, to right plumed and decorated rearing horse with dog riding on back wearing pointed hat, to right female acrobat with flared skirt and hair sticking up walking on hands.
