She is wearing a dark wool striped long cape with a fur trim ( possibly Astrakhan) at the shoulders and round the neck. The infant is wearing a long white gown with an embroiderd cape with a hood trimmed with swans down and fastened with 3 white silk bows. Written on the back "Hand Violet CAroline Nelson / Age nine weeks / Jan 1899"
