Summary

Public: Teabowl and saucer, soft paste porcelain, transfer-printed overglaze in black showing seated figures in garden. Private: Teabowl; slightly tapered footring, everted rim. Transfer-printed overglaze black with The Flute Lesson split into two scenes on opposite sides of bowl. One sdie shows man and woman seated on bank, beneath a tree, she holds instrument, he gestures towards her. Their feet touch. At her feet basket and hat, behind left classical building on mound and sailing ship. Other scene shows wreathed urn on plinth, head pours water from side, distant right church spire and buildings. Inside well ruins, bridge and river. Saucer : slightly everted rim, shallow footring. Transfer printed overglaze with The Flute Lesson as one scene, as above. Urn and spout to right of figures.
