Summary

Full length studio portrait of a young woman against a plain background. On the left of the scene there is a damask curtain which falls in front of a pilaster decorated with a geometric emblem and perhaps supporting a sculpture which is hidden behind the curtain. On the right hand side of the scene is a high backed wooden chair with an upholstered seat and a decoratively carved back. The floor covering is patterned. The woman is wearing a black pillbox hat decorated at the crown. Beneath this the woman's hair is pulled into a chignon at the nape of her neck. The woman is wearing a short black jacket buttoned up the front over a white blouse tied at the neck in a bow. She is wearing a full pale coloured silk skirt. She is holding a pair of gloves in her hands which she rests on the back of the chair.
