Summary

Interior scene with two young girls in a parlour playing a musical instrument (flageolet). The nearmost girl is seated at a table playing a flageolet while her companion stands at her left side, turning the pages of a music book. A single candle, partially obscured by the figure of a cherub, lights the dim room; a scroll of paper has been placed on the table beside the cherub. Hanging from the wall in the background, a portrait of a man with grey hair looks over the scene.
