The Betrothed

Henry Liverseege 1803 - 1832

Summary

Staged scene of man and woman in a dark interior setting. The man stands to the left in seventeenth century costume, a bugle round his waist, leaning on a tall staff with a hawk perched on his left hand. To the right, a young woman in pale dress sits in a heavy wooden chair, her head turned towards him. Between them a table is set with a silver tray and goblet. A second wooden chair just visible in foreground to left.
