Summary

Public: Toby jug, white earthenware, painted in green, brown, yellow, orange and blue beneath a pearlware glaze. Private: Toby jug, with heavy strap loop handle, spurred at thumbrest. Grinning gap-toothed figure of Toby sits on octagonal plinth, with a jug of foaming beer in both hands resting on one knee. Painted in high temperature underglaze colours to give orange coat, yellow breeches, blue-spotted waistcoat and black-brown shoes and hat. Seat and handle painted brown, plinth in green, beer mug with brown floral sprig and foaming beer, facial features picked out in brown with orange mouth and spots. Finely crazed blue pearlware glaze.
