Summary

Narrow standing collar, fastening with hook and eye, another hook and eye below; front curved away at sides, eleven embroidered buttons on right; back with central seam and opening in skirt with pleat at each side, open at side seams, front pleated over back and stitched in three places, edge trimmed with three buttons; button at head of each back pleat (one missing); false cuff trimmed with three buttons; pocket at each side front with deep flap and three buttons beneath; collar, front cuffs, pocket and pocket surrounds, back opening and ends of side openings, embroidered with narrow applied border of green silk, under trellis of metal thread, and leaf and flower stem worked in silk and metal threads in satin and chain stitches; material joined in several places; lining of cream twilled silk, linen at cuff; renewed at shoulders and right front. Inscribed inside'79 Ch 57 P51'. Said to have been worn by John Wilmot in portrait at Dorrington Hall.
