On the fireplace behind him are pieces of Royal Lancastrian pottery, and a newspaper lies on the table in front of him. William Burton was Director of Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian Pottery, Clifton Junction, Manchester 1892-1915, where Cundall worked as a designer.
