Summary

The landscape shows a ruined village on a beach by the sea. In the foreground are walls from dwellings without roofs. In the top right corner we see the blue see and above is a grey sky with dark clouds. There are a number of people in the picture in the distance sweeping and a woman in a blue and white dress near the centre of the composition who is sweeping drift wood. Photograph taken in Totope, Ada Foah, Ghana. "We were once three miles from the sea" - depicts the fishing village of Totope which is disappearing as the encroaching sea and worsening coastal erosion bury villagers' homes in sand.
