Head of a Girl late 1800s Albert Lynch 1851 - 1912 Oil on panel With her face beautifully framed in a frilly bonnet, this is an arresting portrait of a pretty, young girl who holds our attention by the directness of her gaze. The bonnet may be an artist’s historical prop as it wasn’t fashionable in the late 1800s. The girl is probably under seventeen, as after that age her hair would have been pinned up. Albert Lynch studied and worked in Europe and became a well-known artist in Paris. He began his career as an illustrator of modern novels but later devoted himself solely to portraiture.
