Bear Work Wear (black)

Bear Work Wear (black)

Summary

The work takes its form from a promotional bear suit that has been remade minus its head. The headless suit is constructed from canvas and screen-printed with a rococo fur pattern created from a repeated stylised chrysanthemum design. This embellished surface suggests fur.

Bear Workwear (black) 2011 Brian Griffiths born 1969 Printed cotton canvas with zip and foam padding The artist has recreated a promotional bear costume (minus head) in a durable fabric. It is screen-printed with a chrysanthemum-petal design that resembles fur. The peg on which the suit hangs comes with the work, so that it can be displayed in precisely this way, as if the ‘bear’ has just hung up its overalls and walked away.
