Summary
Navy slubbed silk dinner ensemble, comprising fitted short jacket and matching skirt. Single breasted jacket with elbow length sleeves with turn-back cuffs; wide padded shawl collar attached only with brides at the back but forming the fronts which fasten with 2 circular buttons and 3 hooks and eyes; modesty panel filling the deep V-front; shallow patch pockets on the bottom hem; lined navy silk woven with the Christian Dior signature. Matching calf length lined skirt. The suit was commissioned by US socialite, Gladys Raymond who married property magnate David Howell. They lived in St Petersburg, Florida in winter and in the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco in summer. Gladys had her own mannequinn at Ransohoffs in San Francisco where she bought most of her wardrobe.
