Alfred Seifert 1850 - 1901

Summary

This profile portrait of a fashionable young woman in a white chiffon dress epitomises the work of the Czechoslovakian portrait and genre painter, Alfred Seifert. She is shown with a pale pink rose pinned at her breast, a symbol of her youth and beauty. Her rosy cheeks, sensual red lips, gentle upward gaze and slender, exposed neck, contribute to a highly appealing picture of femininity. The flesh tones are painted with exceptional care and skill. Seifert trained first in his native Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic), then at the Munich Academy. He ran a studio in Munich and specialised in portraits of women, which sold well.
